Applications Due March 5, 2025
The goal of this professional development workshop is to present Liberty State Park as a historical classroom to grade K-12 educators, librarians, curriculum consultants, supervisors, museum educators, and administrators.
Liberty State Park sits on ancient oyster beds where Lenape peoples encountered the Dutch Halve Maen. At the intersection of Humanities and Science, this workshop will be led by Professors from a broad range of disciplines that touch the NJ and NY Coastline. We will link the history of the natural and human environments spanning from before, during and after the colonist’s arrival.
The workshop includes trips on land and from the water to coastal landmarks, historic waterfront areas, and significant areas in and around the harbor. Learning will be enhanced by readings, visiting scholar and faculty presentations, indigenous knowledge bearer conversations.
