Logistics and Practical Information

Stipend

Participants will receive a stipend of $1,300 for participating in the workshop, which will be mailed to them after the conclusion of the workshop. The entire stipend is considered taxable income. Project applicants who accept an offer to participate are expected to remain during the entire period of the program and to participate in its work on a full-time basis. If a participant is obliged through special circumstances to depart before the end of the program, they will receive a pro-rated stipend to reflect that absence

Travel

We ask that you try to arrive in New Jersey by early afternoon on the Monday morning of your workshop week. We’ve arranged for shuttles to take you to the Liberty State Park

If you are traveling via plane, and need transportation from the airport to the hotel, you can either arrange an Uber or Lyft, or take New Jersey Transit, which is a stop on the airport air train.

Lodging

We are holding a block of rooms, one per participant in Jersey City, near the light rail that goes to Liberty State Park (LSP) for a cost of $XXX per room. If you elect to use this reservation, your housing costs will be deducted from your stipend. We will be careful to have a manageable start time, in case some participants are commuting to LSP and Jersey City each day. Please insure that you can arrive by 9:30 each morning.

Lunch

Lunch is catered each day, because the schedule is packed and there are not enough nearby food options at the park. We can accommodate any and all dietary restrictions.

Dinner

We have assembled a list of terrific local restaurants, and we will leave ample time in the evening so that participants can have time to enjoy Jersey City’s diverse offerings. There is an Indigenous Dinner event planned for Tuesday Night.

Boat Concerns

Please be aware that participants will be going on a boat ride, in and around LSP, so if you are susceptible to seasickness, be prepared with medication or you may have to miss the boat trip. We do not anticipate rough waters. Bad weather will be accommodated in our schedule, but presently the boat trip is planned for Tuesday.
